It’s a long way from the humble company fleet to Goodwood glamour but three of the 30 stand-out, award-worthy shortlisted classics now poised to snatch the Revival Car Show’s Best in Show title have made that unlikely journey.

On Friday’s shortlist Duncan Holden’s former fleet model, a gleaming black 1955 Ford Thunderbird, was first registered to an employee of Howard Hughes Corporation, a company owned by the world-famous tycoon, aviator and recluse of the same name.

Duncan is the car’s fourth owner, snapping up the car fresh as soon as it arrived on British shores in the late 90’s following a 10-year restoration. Restored to its original specification in 6v electrics and boasts power steering, servo brakes, electric windows and seats. Sitting on cross-plys, the car is a real event to drive!

Saturday’s shortlist sees Christian Phillips’ 1967 Volvo P1800S fly the former fleet flag. First registered as the head of Sony UK’s company car it was eventually snapped up by Christian, inspired by a nostalgia for his own father’s 1800ES and an enduring love of all things Saint and Bond.

It’s since been treated to an overhaul and some wire wheels and takes pride of place in Christian’s ‘Spy Screen’ car collection next to his BMW Z3 from Goldeneye.

Perhaps the most hard-working of all the fleet fancies on our shortlist, Sunday’s 1968 Morris Minor was first registered to the Metropolitan Police where she was named ‘Milly’ and became the star of a children’s ‘cops and robbers’ book alongside Billy the black Jag.

Originally assigned to Sutton police station, Milly still earns her keep today as the star vehicle of owner Angela Taylor’s private hire business since she was bought from Wandsworth Council some years ago.
